Back to Basics

With so many jobs lost and more jobs to be lost, it's back to basic. Creating small plots of land for growing vegetables and chickens. Creating more small chicken farms with the proper drainage and sewage system will provide those without jobs a way to feed themselves. Other types of small animal farms can be created also. Small fish farms too.

The best boss I had

I have learnt that it is important to give credit where credit is due. So who is the best boss I had. I had more than a dozen bosses in my various job experiences. The best boss I had is Matthias Yao Chi. Although I had only worked with him for a very, very brief time, I vote Matthias Yao as the best boss I had. I believe he is a people developer.

Why are there no slums in Singapore?

There are poor people in Singapore but there are no slums. This is not by accident. Someone or a group of people in the Government got to solving the problem. What is the definition of a slum? A slum is a squalid section of a city. In simple terms, it is a collection of a group of poor people living together. So what is the solution to avoid slums? Don't put all the poor people together. Don't house all the poor people together. In any housing projects, cater to the housing of the poor, the average Joe and the wealthy. When you group people from various financial status, the wealthy can help the poor, the poor can look to work for the rich; the poor can learn for the rich and the rich can teach the poor. This will also expose the rich to experience and understand the plight of the poor. There are some areas in Singapore that are more exclusive to the richer section of the population.

If you have benefitted from the information in this article, trade with Singapore, work with Singaporeans. Let Singapore play a greater role in world affairs. Just a reminder, low crime rate does not mean no crime.

Money Cycle

What money cycle? You have learnt about the water cycle, the life cycle but what about the money cycle. Understanding and proper management of the money cycle will lead to less disastrous consequences across the world and better lives for everyone.

Let's first examine the water cycle. Water evaporates and form clouds. Clouds come down as rain and the cycle continues. When there is no rain, you get drought.

Let's examine the life cycle. Parents give life to new born. They grow old and then dies. The young grow up and give life to new born and the cycle continues. If there are lesser and lesser new borns, then the population starts to dwindle.

Let's examine the money cycle. Companies employ workers and workers are paid salaries. Workers then spend their money on a variety of goods and services and so some of the money goes back to the companies. But, if workers cannot find jobs, then they have no salaries and no money to spend. So for a better life, theoretically, all workers have to have a job, otherwise they have to find some way to feed themselves.

The Greatest Hoist of The Century

It is better than visiting Fox Knox. A CEO's being paid a whopping $230 million for bringing disaster to the company and the world. Wow!!

BuyToto

I used to think that Toto is a sure loss. But with the financial crisis, Toto looks like a better bet. If you put in $50 dollars, you have a chance to win a $1 million dollars or more depending on the prize money. But if you lose, you only lose $50 dollars. With all these complex financial products, some that gives, let's say 8 - 12 % return, has a risk of 100% loss, goodness gracious, if anyone had told the truth, who would have bought them.

Unravelling the mystery

Will Rush get the crocks for daylight rubbery? I will admit I have misjudged if the answer is yes.

Who should be the highest paid?

It should be the mothers. No pay no babies. That's what more and more are saying, if you look at the decline in babies in the developing world. No babies mean no workforce. No workforce means no economic growth. I now understand why Hillary Clinton garnered such a huge number of votes.

Restoring Confidence in Financial Markets

If people go around selling quack medicine, the law will be after them faster than you can say "Jack in the box". Selling contaminated products have the same consequences. Selling products that don't work have the same consequences. This is the way to restore confidence in consumers.

Announcements that portions of salaries paid out to all the individuals involved in the mismanagement of the financial system will be recovered including those who came up and sold all these so called complex sophisticated products is the quickest way to restore confidence in the financial markets. If not, more of this will follow. Many are saying, stop the blame game. Exactly, action has to be taken to immediately to start the recovery of salaries and bonuses paid out. So how much money should be recovered? Do you think they deserve to be paid more than the cleaners and the garbage collectors? At least the cleaners and garbage collectors contribute to society by keeping the city clean. Would you pay them if they left behind an even greater mess behind.

Some say that the CEOs deserve their pay. When it comes to work, everybody yells "teamwork". When it comes to pay, let's yell out "team pay".

Integrity and concern for Mankind

Integrity and concern for mankind is more important than talent. Many of today's problems can be solved by just having a concern for mankind. Many people are out there to make more and even more money for themselves. Thoughts such as how can I make myself appear better by running down others are prevalent.

High Oil Prices

High oil prices is bad news for many but it is better news than oil has run out. More will be switching to bicycles and public transport. This means lanes will have to be created for bicycles and pedestrians. I look forward to greener cities.

Great Hands and Great Minds

Inventors have both great hands and great minds. Giving students stints in various fields such as a month or two in ITE, Art Academy, Music Academy, Cooking schools etc. will improve creative talents. I see so many with great minds but are hopeless in using their hands for creating. Investing in people talent is the best investment.

Covered walkways

Covered walkways in HDB estates are really useful in Singapore's hot, sunny and rainy weather. How wonderful it would be, if this is extended to private housing estates as well. As the population ages, walking is the best exercise to keep the people healthy.

Just have to say something about Larry King

I have a question for Larry King. Why does he wear the two straps over his shoulder? As you obviously note, I am a follower of his show.

A different environment

If Chee Soon Juan wonders why he is not doing well in Singapore, perhaps he should check with a speech therapist. His accent is way out and I am quite sure the way he speaks can't jell with the Ah Bengs and Ah Sohs. He seems to keep banging his head against the wall at exactly the same spot and hope that something miraculous will happen. Perhaps he will do better in Myammar, Africa, Somalia or Darfur. I hope he takes up my suggestion.

Different Perceptions

The rich view magnificent buildings as symbols of wealth. The poor look at these same magnificent buildings and see them as symbols of poverty. Why? Because when they look at these magnificent buildings and they compare it with their own meagre place of living and the contrast is just too much!! Some people look at these buildings and compare them with the homes for the elderly or the disabled. The sick look at these magnificent buildings and wonder why they can't afford to pay for their medical fees and those who have not made it through the education system wonder how they could have been so left out.

1 week from 18th May

....hmmm. Do what you need to do. Take action or just sleep at home and enjoy a bowl of porridge. Sometimes not doing anything is also doing something. Best of luck and hope good things will come about.

More Singaporeans holidaying in Singapore?

I am of the opinion that more Singaporeans will choose to have their holidays in Singapore. I used to enjoy going on holidays abroad in the past to see the mountains and lakes and because they had cleaner toilets. But now that our toilets are getting more decent I would actually like to holiday in Singapore. Overseas tour buses will have to upgrade to provide music players and even laptops to entice tourists to travel long distances in them like what they have in airplanes.

Don't miss Singapore's Orchid Garden

Singapore's Orchid Garden promises an experience you won't want to miss. When you enter the Orchid garden you will feel as though you have been transported to another planet. So lovely, so neat, so clean, so refreshing, so breath-taking. I have heard some tourists' utter admiration at the sight. Singapore is increasingly adding on new species of plants all over the island. Take bus rides and you will be able to see them. Even new birds are coming into my garden. There used to be sparrows and crows but I can see more yellow birds and other kind of birds hopping around.

Singapore's Orchid Garden is located in the Singapore Botanic gardens.
